Have you ever longed to have a discussion about your career that would include the development of a Road Map to help in your career planning?
Maybe you are one of the fortunate folks that work for a company that has such a formal future planning process. If you do, you are part of a small group of companies that commit to doing this regularly with all members at all levels of the enterprise.
This planning pays dividends to the individuals and the company . It helps to develop good teams to be great teams. Team members that feel heard and understood both in their present responsibilities and also for their future in life and in their current company, tend to stay longer and are more productive to their team.
Even if your company does not do this process formally, there is no reason why you as the coach of your team can not incorporate this into your discussions with members of your team.
When their coach spends the time to really get to know them and understand them from many aspects and aspirations, it really motivates them and they feel like an important part of a team with shared visions and goals. This is why setting aside on a yearly basis, minimally, time to have these career planning discussions is so critical.
